For years Woman's Rights has been a popular topic in the media. Right now woman are out in various cities marching to advocate woman's rights, specifically the right to chose what is done with their bodies. Many leaders have voiced opinions on this and here are some examples:
President Barrack Obama states that "Women are not an interest group. They are mothers, and daughters, and sisters and wives. They are half of this country and they are perfectly capable of making their own choices about their health." A Instagram post with the hashtag #prochoice showed a picture written in words on sign that read, "My Womb, My Choice. Another post similar also stated "Girls just want to have FUN..DING for Planned Parenthood." This post was in regards to the investigation of the company Planned Parenthood who stopped receiving government funding due to unmet requirements. To sum up the buzz here woman in America are tired the government making choices for them concerning their own health.
One the complete opposite side of this argument is supporters of the Pro-Life community. Shared above is a quote from Martin Luther King "How can the dream survive if we murder the children? Every aborted baby is like a slave in the womb of his or her mother. The mother decides the fate." Instagram posts hash tagged #prolife go on show actual fetal video of the after math of abortion. In an article I read that cover pro-life shared Ambassador nominee Nikki Haley opinion on this topic. She shares "I believe every life has a value and is blessed by God. I see it every day in my two children as I watch them grow. My hope is that we continue to encourage and work towards educating that value of life to everyone, ” To sum the opposition, life is deserved to everyone regardless of the unfortunate situations that happen.
During this research it was clear that ethical choices are to be made on both sides. American's don't like being told what to do and will fight back because it's our American right to do so. Throughout the years and into the future Abortion will lie in the hands of our leaders. It is up to the people to insure that they are aware of the leaders being voted in the office and to continue to fight for what they believe is right. This war of Pro-Life and Pro-Choice may be one that will never end.

The author of the Feminists Studies article shared many insights on pro-life and pro-choice directly relating those issues to woman's healthcare. A strategy she used that was effective was sharing an example of a twenty three year old who turned to Planned Parenthood for birth control. Many woman around the world don't have that resource readily available to them so it instantly becomes related to the reader.
Another strategy I feel worked was using her research with statistics/numbers that support her. She also took to social media to help direct that this social justice issue is continuing. On a Woman's Right Facebook page she shared that " We've gained 1.5 million new supporters who are more ethnically and generationally diverse than ever before."
Her ability to target the feelings of this generation to explain why statics are not in favor was genius! She wrote, " : labels such as "pro-life" or "pro-choice" are vague and don't capture the complexity of abortion issues." All her research becomes related and real as she speaks for a generation that when labeled feel constricted in words.
I want to incorporate related examples and share support that continues to grow in the communities about Woman's decisions and rights when it comes to their body. I liked how she concluded that ultimately at the end of the day in order for us ALL to be equal, everyone should be allowed to make decisions on their own.

3a. Write objectively about divisions on your issue from three different perspectives. (PRI stories, NPR report, etc.) Once you have done this, look back on what you have written and determine what story you should tell. Try creating a visual, audio, etc. collage of these different perspectives to help you determine where there are invitations for stories.

The labels Pro-Life and Pro-Choice divides many individuals (mainly woman) across the country. The two I want to share are on pro-life advocates, pro-choice advocates. Pro life advocates support the banning of abortion while Pro choice advocates fight to legalize it. In almost every article, journal, social media posts or interview on this specific topic there is a woman behind it sharing her experience. Most of the time these experiences are the reasons why woman are for or against abortion. A Maryland woman shares her story on her decision to terminate her pregnancy, she states, " my path to parenthood was NOT easy. In fact it was exceptionally difficult and at times, and heart breaking." Pro-choice advocates support these unfortunate situations and believe that a decision to terminate should be a decided by that individual. The right to do so is voiced in many social media posts with the hashtag #mychoice. Pro life advocates share their desire to save lives. Presley shares his story stating "I am very thankful that I am alive today," as he shares that his own mother decided pro-life was the best decision. Many pro-life advocates fight for alternative options that woman can take other than abortion. For example adoption is what many supporters believe should happen. The argument that is often heard is that children (in the womb) have the right to life and that woman shouldn't be allowed to terminate. A lot of these beliefs also steam off religious beliefs. After much research, I have decided to share the pro-choice side of this story.
Revise and Reflect
Note Book 4
2d. Look at your draft and find a place you used a source. What did you do with this source? Describe how you used it: did you introduce it? quote, paraphrase, summarize it? Did you put it in contrast with another source? did you agree with your source, use it to support a point, use it to characterize an argument or position you disagree with? What are some other ways you could have used this source? Why did you choose to use the source as you did?
Here is a part in my Profile paper that I used a source:
Having an abortion does affect women’s emotional health. The APA states that some physical effects of an abortion can range from: "Regret , Anger, Guilt, Shame, Sense of loneliness or isolation, Loss of self confidence, Insomnia or nightmares, Relationship issues, Suicidal thoughts and feelings, Eating disorders, Depression, Anxiety"
What did you do with this source?
I basically just stated the affects that abortion play on women's health. Many people like to say that there aren't any factors when in fact there are.
Describe how you used it: did you introduce it? quote, paraphrase, summarize it?
I stated the APA states, which I probably could have stated the whole name of the organizations. I also used quotation marks to highlight the effects that used verbatim.
Did you put it in contrast with another source?
No, I probably should have. I actually didn't think to do that at all but I see now how that would help readers understand more that women do go through side affects after abortions.
Did you agree with your source, use it to support a point, use it to characterize an argument or position you disagree with?
I do feel confident in my source, I would have to work on delivering the point more effectively. This would allow the readers to understand Celibacy's point. I felt that I didn't explain her story enough for people to know who she is as a person.
What are some other ways you could have used this source?
I could have related Celibacy's story to this stating she indeed had these affects. This could have helped my credibility as a writer and could have helped readers see that point more clearly.
Why did you choose to use the source as you did?
I chose to use it that way so readers could read in a long list that the emotion affects are a real deal. Women don't just have abortions and move on with their life like nothing ever happened. It truly takes a hit on them emotionally and it's something that people need to read and see.

My first reaction of WorldMapper.org was that it wouldn't have any relevance to my topic. I wasn't sure how the site worked so I started to search different topics. I typed in 'women' in the search bar and found some key data that I would be able to use in my research! Under women there was another option called, 'Maternal Mortality' and it breaks down the data of women who have died due to pregnancy issues. The map showed that a majority of these issues happened in Southern Asia and Africa territories.
I plan to use this map to open more minds to the fact that women's health during pregnancy can decline and be a cause of death. In certain circumstances like these women in many other countries don't have a choice to abort pregnancies due to strict government laws.
As a woman myself, I couldn't imagine a situation where I couldn't be a part of deciding if I should live.
Today, I am fortunate to live in a country that allows women to make the decision if they want to live or not. We are extremely blessed to be American's and to have that right to chose. Although many may disagree with abortions, having one is a decision that a woman should have the right to chose.

What I know about Abortion:
What I don't know Abortion:
The "I don't know part" I'm currently working on. I have found resources using the Library on my SLCC and also finding videos online that have helped clear up confusion.
- Abortion is legal
- Abortion Processes
- Personal Experiences
- Resources that provide services
What I don't know Abortion:
- (Still re-searching) Cells and Biology
- Exact Government regulations
- The division between women

My Struggles in my Writing

There are a few things I see in my writing that I struggle a lot with. The one struggle I want to focus on how I use the rhetorical triangle.
I have a really bad habit writing with no purpose. My semester topic is on abortion and I can write forever about why I feel that abortion should continue to available to all women. In my recent writing I narrative a famous YouTuber and wrote about her experiences with abortion. The one part I feel that is always a struggle for me seeing how the rhetorical triangle works in a paper. I started to do research on how to better understand rhetorical writing. After reading two articles, I realized that reading how to improve this was not effective for me. I understand writings better when I can see it on a video. I turned to YouTube to see if there were videos that could help me. Although YouTube is not a very creditable website, you can't discredit it for helping students like me learn. Below is a rhetorical analysis of the Sam Smiths "I'm Not the Only One" song.
After watching this video (and many other videos) I found that the scene by scene narrative has been so helpful! I have realize that in order for me to see rhetoric, I have to practice seeing it.
Balance
Note Book 8
3e. First, look at the piece you're currently working on. Who would you say are the most important figures in it? One way to look at this question is to look at the sources you're using as voices, or characters. Another way to look at it is by looking at the points of view you're using. Next, analyze what you've done so far to represent each figure/character/voice. Finally, identify what you need to do to balance the scales--to represent each figure/character/voice fairly or accurately.

My semester topic is on Women's Rights specifically women having the right to chose to terminate pregnancy. The two figures that I have voiced in my papers would be the pro-choice and pro-life advocates. I have written and researched different reasons to both side and I feel that both sides have their reasons. The one side that I need to re-search more on is the government leaders stand on the topic. This of course is definitely hard for me to understand because I do feel that it all depends on the leaders that are voted in to lead. We see this every time a new president is elected. One may indeed understand the importance of women's rights while the other see's it from a different perspective.
Here is an example of this past presidential candidates campaign on abortion:
Although I agree wit Donald Trump's view, I don't feel that the government should unfunded resources such as Planned Parenthood that help many women across the world with contraception availability. This indeed is a task that I need to do more research with and I'm willing to do.
Here is an example of this past presidential candidates campaign on abortion:
- Hillary Clinton expressed support for abortion rights, funding Planned Parenthood, and reconsidering the 1973 Helms Amendment, which prohibits the use of foreign assistance funds for abortion.
- Donald Trump opposed abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or danger to the mother's life.

Two Different Settings
3f. First, sketch--you can literally do this as a drawing, or with words--two different settings for the events taking place in your current piece. Think about place, about time, about sensory details, about who is there. Second, discuss how you might use any of these details in the piece you're currently working on.
![Picture](/uploads/6/7/8/2/67827457/women.jpg?250)
The two different settings in regards to Women's Rights that I want to talk about would be:
Women's Rights in America vs. Women's Rights not in America
There are many women around the world that have been stripped simple women's rights. Countries such as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, India, Equator and many others have silly restrictions against women. Some examples that have specific restrictions to women are: safety road rules, testifying in court, voting, abortion, victims of rape, permission to leave their home and the list can go on. If we think of some of these restrictions that are placed on women due to their gender, it is safe to say that Women around the world are not treated equally.
Here in America we are fortunate to have Constitutional rights that protect the women that live here. I plan to use these examples in my final to simply state that if we take away the right that women have to chose what they do with their body, it can have a domino effect.
What decisions can women make about their bodies?
When is a situation okay for the government to step in?
Should Abortion be legal?
These are all questions that I want to address in my final and hopefully spread some light as to why ethically it is wrong for the government to take that right away from women.

The essay I want to revisit would have to be my Profile. I profiled a famous YouTuber and her experience of having an Abortion.
The reason why I feel that this piece is very powerful is because Sister Celibacy shares her own personal story of having several abortions. Having an abortion is not an average conversation that women have, and for many women including myself this topic is a difficult one to talk about. Why is that so? Is it because of we come from a traditional God fearing country? Women most recently have take to different social media resources to share their experiences. Doing so many women are feeling more comfortable with talking about their experiences and this has become such a powerful movement for women.
But let's continue to talk about this. We have leaders that have been voted in that may take away this right away from women. How is this ethically right? When women are becoming comfortable to come out and even talk about a procedure that has taking such a huge impact on their life, how can we now say you have no rights anymore. If you're a women that hasn't experienced a rough time then how can you say that you understand. I feel that my Profile is definitely a writing that hopefully bring perspective and helps other women know of the powerful influence that comes when sharing their experiences with others.

Group Work
NoteBook 11
7c. Analyze group work in the context of civic engagement. How might working in a group affect your writing positively and negatively (think about rhetorical elements like your credibility, your perspective, your message, your purpose, genre, etc.)? How might working in a group impact—both positively and negatively—your own level of civic engagement?

How might working in a group affect your writing positively and negatively (think about rhetorical elements like your credibility, your perspective, your message, your purpose, genre, etc.)? How might working in a group impact—both positively and negatively—your own level of civic engagement?
Working in a group can be difficult for many because learning how to work with people who are different that you can be a challenge. I know for me, when I didn't understand that concept working with people different than me became my least favorite thing to do. So I would try to ignore differences and just deal with situations that I disagreed with. This would be an example of a negative effect that may happen to someone when they are not open to difference. This would also affect a person's writing because seeing an issue from a different perspective can help you understand that issue in a way you may not have saw it. Now that I am a bit older and wiser, I have understood that it's okay to be different than the people that I work with in group projects. Doing this has increased my own knowledge of topics that I misunderstood. An example would be my semester topic on Abortion. My whole life I was raised that if you were to participate in an abortion you were a horrible person. I made mistakes in my teenager rebellious life and couldn't tell my own parents that I was pregnant in fear of being disowned. I have learned from many people who are different than me, that it's okay to make mistakes. Instead of being disappointed and believing that I'm a horrible person, I hope to empower women and help those who have been in similar situations. All of this has happened because I allowed myself to be open to other people. When we work in groups with the thought of capitalizing on others differences, we see positive things happen in our own lives. We increase our awareness of topics that we may have never known about. This allows for more opportunity to be civic-ally engaged in the communities you are a part of.
Final Notebook
- What were the notebook activities that made you think differently about a project, or about your writing (or research or revisions)?
- What notebook activities were the most interesting or fun? ANY notebook that had me return to my work this semester and revise because at the time I was writing I was thinking one way, and now that I'm being asked to revisit my work it was difficult to think why I wrote what I did. This is a continued issue that I have working on the rhetorical triangle. It was fun to go back and read what I wrote.
- Which notebook entries do you like the best now? Research ones for sure because it allowed me to work more on my semester topic. I think it would make sense to do more of those because it saves a lot of time.
- Which notebook activities might you try again, in other writing circumstances? Again the ones where it asked me to revisit my work. I naturally like going back and revising my work. I also really liked 8 and 9 that asked me to think of my topic in different perspectives because it allowed me to take a step back and see it from another point of view.
- Name three new tools or strategies you now have as a result of doing the notebook activities, ones that you can use with some confidence going forward. New strategies that I have picked up not only from the notebooks but from the readings that we have been asked to do weekly. I have a better understanding on how to research information. I feel in English 1010 I was taught this but asked to actually practice this more in English 2010. Another tool that I really appreciate is being told reflect on how your work benefits the community.
On Communicating and Collaborating
Final Course Reflection
This semester in English 2010 we were asked to choose a social justice topic that we wanted to write about throughout the semester. The topic I chose was abortion, specifically women having the right to chose to have an abortion. I chose this topic because for many years it has been hard for me to talk about my own abortion. Now that I’m a bit older and wiser I realized why I kept this experience such a secret for so long. I was afraid of the hurtful judgments that my family/friends would have made about me. How do I know they would make those judgments? Because I just know. It was easier for me to have an abortion and that was the decision I made.
Holding in this experience and not being able to talk to anyone about it had its effects on me. I went through a emotional state that caused systems such as extreme guilt, anxiety, depression, shame and inadequacy. Women do go through these phases, please click HERE to learn more. I was ashamed to return to church because I was afraid that something bad would happen to me. I believed that nothing good would ever happen to me because of having an abortion, and this went on for years. It wasn’t until I returned to school that I realized it was okay to talk about it.
At first I formed my perspective about abortion off the beliefs that I was taught. Returning to school and having conversation with people who were so different in beliefs taught me that the decision I made years ago was a learning one. I learned through research of this topic that “one of three” women in America have gotten an abortion. I experienced a sense of obligation to share my story with those who would read my work. I was confident, yet I was afraid. I remember writing my Flash Memoir and being scared for another class member to review it.
My perspective on women having an abortion changed and I have become more open minded to the fact that I am human. I found comfort in my religion that I believed I wouldn’t be able to. I talked to friends that helped me understand feelings that couldn’t explain. I became brave and spoke out on my true feelings about women having the right to choose if this is right. I even wrote in a notebook of this conversation. I decided to use that conversation as my translation adaption piece and turned the conversation into a comic called Division in our Society. It was awesome! I chose that specific conversation because I felt that that particular writing was in content the reason why I didn’t want to speak out about my abortion experience. The dialogue is verbatim a conversation I had with a close family member of mine.
I choose to write in a personal view because I felt that the only way to connect with my readers were to show them my vulnerability. Revisions took a majority of my time because I wanted to insure that I was being honest with my feelings. Writing rhetorically has always been a struggle for me. My approach to fixing this was just being simple with my writing. Here is a notebook of me sharing those struggles through the writing called My Struggles in Writing.
Writing collectively has actually been a good experience! The group that I worked with really helped guide my writing with giving suggestions on my rhetoric. We set up weekly meetings in the library and there we would meet and help each other. They helped with teaching me different sites to put my work into different genres and I learned so much from them. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to have learned so much from my professor and my amazing classmates. I will definitely take what I have learned with me as I continue my education. Our final was a magazine project where we all shared different writings throughout the semester on a issue that we were passionate about. We title it The Reverent Chronicles and hope that all viewers will be inspired by our work.
