My Renaissance-The Industrial Revolution Ten years from now we may live in a society where physical labor will seem foreign for many. In fact, the rate that technology is increasing today humans may not be the most reliable sources to go to. This concept, to the current generation, may not be so surprising because many were born into a spoiled civilization not even knowing. The rise of the Industrial Revolution was an exciting time for workers that lived in the 18-1900’s. This Renaissance essay will share life before, during and after the creation of machines and how human’s may not be needed for any physical labor soon. I will also touch base on the Mechanical Revolution (another topic that I enjoyed learning about) mixed in because the rise of technology and robots will only increase and may eventually take over our societies. Time before the Industrial Revolution or is other words before machines were created, had to be one of hardships and trials. Could you even imagine living without the help from any type machine? I could attest right now that this generation wouldn’t be able to last and if they did it (because it has been done) this type of living would take some time to get used to. I took it upon myself to test out life without the help of machines and that failed miserably when I realized I live too far to walk to school. Being that it was so easy for me to fail I couldn’t help but think about the generations before who labored on their own. I have come to an understanding through this business course that people who have lived far before our times valued the ability to work. Workers were taught that the harder you physically worked the more you would get done which would mean money. It amazes me to hear stories of families that had to physically labor in fields for fifteen hours straight. To think of the impact on many of these worker’s bodies being out in the heat or cold and having to labor for so long sounds awful. The sacrifices that many made to provide for their essential needs is very much inspiring and helps put things into perspective. It is safe to say that we humans are capable to physically labor far more than we think. I can’t help but think of the saying that I heard when I worked as a waitress for a restaurant. I would complain about being on my feet for eight hours and a co-worker of mine would say “You got this, it’s all mental.” It is obvious that these workers had more mental strength than I did and had the ability to push through physical pain and that is something I admired about them. Now that we have established that we are all lazy we now can talk about how the industrial revolution evolved. Many people lived on farmlands in the late 1800’s and had to plant, grow and harvest on their own. Having to do this took a lot more time and I would assume that food would start to go bad. Help from the newly discovered engines aided civilization into making the tracker helped with physical needs in the agricultural field. Other machines were made and soon farmers almost triple the amount in produce being made making it easier to provide to multiple consumers at one time. Being able to provide more meant more success for the farmers and once the hype of machines started humans became lazier. An example of a machine that made things easier for civilization was the use of the steam engine. The steam engine helped move long hours of tedious work such as packaging, wrapping, stamping, filling or even molding into factories. Factories I would say was a big jump in the industrial revolution because not only was work producing quantities of products, but they now could cut down time. Time plays a vital part in any company, business, organization or in this case growth in civilization. I have learned that when a civilization finds a way to be more effective, it continues to grow. This was an example of the Roman markets that continued to grow because they brought in more products. It spread like fire knowing that quality products were available in a timely manner and so this was one of the many reasons why it was so successful. Another example would be automobiles that were created to help with travel. Travel without automobiles sometimes took days, weeks or even month. People would have to anticipate and plan for a month’s travel when it came down to importing goods to another state. Luckily the had the luxury of animals such as horses that made the ride more bearable for some. Could we consider the possible weather changes that happened during this trip? Having to deliver important info to the other state and a winter storm that hits during the final route. The rider’s life and his/her safety that is put on the line each trip to provide for their needs. What if he were to get mobbed my thieves? These scenarios were things that many had to worry about when traveling not to mention the time that is spent traveling. Automobiles must have been a huge hit when they came out and allowed people to travel in the comfort of a car cutting down travel more than half. This again was good for business and allow physical labor of traveling and relying on humans to cut down. Human’s again became even more lazy and look for more ways to make things convenient for them. Machines were becoming more reliable than humans were. I truly believe that the creation of machines did and still does have its benefits in civilization. Although I have stated multiple times that humans have indeed become lazier we can’t blame humans at default. Advancement of machines continued to grow as year went by and today we see the effects of the industrial revolution and the machinery revolution. When machinery evolved with the mixture of technology, the game completely turned. We were now seeing machines act on command. Civilization now had the ability to talk to machines because of robots and command it to do just about anything. Technology would continue to grow and we have witnessed it the society we currently live. Today our civilization thrives off the machines and robots that are reliable and convenient for our use. Just about everything we do we rely on machines to help us get things done. Children in this generation don’t understand the sacrifice and hardships that many of their ancestors had to live through to just make breakfast in the morning. Teenager’s don’t know anymore the feeling of having to work in factories and travel to make money to provide for their essential needs. Adults now don’t know physical labor as they sit back for eight hours at a desk job or call center job. Students now days don’t know to do basic math in their heads because they rely so much on their calculators. We have become a lazier people and per scientist our future will continue to evolve this way. Soon robots and machines will do almost everything that humans can do. The industrial revolution is more alive today than it ever was and every will be. We as a people rely so much on this revolution. Technology will continue to adapt and find more ways for easy convenient solutions for us. Knowing this has allowed to understand that school is an important factor in my future. Education is key and being adaptable will help in the changes that will continue to happen. I must be ready and willing to critically think through situations and to find ways to survive in this never-ending revolution.
